Vanishing Points And 3d Lines From Omnidirectional Video (http://people.csail.mit.edu/koch/research/cites/bosse_03.pdf) M. Bosse, R. Rikoski, J. Leonard, S. Teller Proceedings of ICIP 2002, Rochester, NY, September 2002, pp. 513-516 Locate and track 3D lines (as opposed to textured surfaces) and vanishing points.
Visual Navigation using Omnidirectional View Sequence (http://people.csail.mit.edu/koch/research/cites/matsumoto_99.pdf) Y. Matsumoto, K. Ikeda, M. Inaba, H. Inoue Proc. of IEEE Int. Conf. on Intelligent Robots and Systems, pages 317--322, 1999 Very simple approach to teaching a robot a path to follow. Give robot omnidirectional camera. Walk robot down a path. As robot moves, it makes video recording using omnidirectionl video camera. Later, robot 'replays' its route by direct pixel comparison of its current view with its stored view. Do I not understand this correctly? why does it seem so stupid?
Map-based navigation for a mobile robot with omnidirectional image sensor COPIS (http://people.csail.mit.edu/koch/research/cites/yagi_95.pdf) Y. Yagi, Y. Nishizawa, and M. Yachida IEEE Transaction on Robotics and automation, VOL. 11(NO. 5):pp. 634--648, October 1995 A navigation paper that estimates the location of vertical edges from multiple measurements taken with an omnidirectional camera. compares relative positions of detected edges to a known map of environment to determine robot position. uses this to correct for encoding and dead-reckoning errrors. seems a little bit similar to olivier's work, but only considers vertical edges, 2D map, and robot has a known starting point. other differences?
Ego-motion and Omnidirectional Cameras (http://www.cs.columbia.edu/CAVE/publinks/gluckman_ICCV_1998.pdf) Joshua Gluckman and Shree K. Nayar In Proc. Int. Conf. on Computer Vision, pages 999--1005, Bombay, India, Jan. 3-5, 1998 using an omnidrectional camera to estimate egomotion
A General Approach for Egomotion Estimation with Omnidirectional Images (http://www.isr.ist.utl.pt/vislab/publications/02-omnivis-raquel.pdf/vassallo02general.pdf) Raquel Frizera Vassallo and José Santos-Victor and Hans Jörg Schneebeli In OMNIVIS, pages 97--103, 2002 using an omnidirectional camera to estimate egomotion
