Flickr Material Database (FMD) |
In this paper we used the image database that we had developed for studying human material categorization for training and testing our material recognition system. This database was constructed with the specific purpose of capturing a range of real world appearances of common materials (e.g. glass, plastic etc.). Each image in this database (100 images per category, 10 categories) was selected manually from Flickr.com (under Creative Commons license) to ensure a variety of illumination conditions, compositions, colors, texture and material sub-types. Full resolution images for all 10 material categories can be directly accessed here [download]. To cite the database, for now, please use: Sharan, L., Rosenholtz, R., & Adelson, E. H.
