Installing InkScape and LaTeX

Inkscape is an excellent tool for drawing raster diagrams (e.g. SVG, EPS files). Download from the web page.

Inkscape can install LaTeX! You can download textext. Alternatively, another option is in the Effects->Render->LaTeX formula menu from Inkscape. Unfortunately, that option isn't available until you do the following steps (which are also part of the textext installation):

First install MikTex. Then install pstoedit. Finally install Ghostscript. Ensure that both pstoedit and pdflatex are in your path. Then run Inkscape, and the option should be there.

You might want to use this as a replacement for the file in C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\extensions.

Help! I always get an error ending with etree.XMLSyntaxError: line 1: Start tag expected, '<' not found!

To solve this problem, go to your Documents and Settings\Your username\ directory. There should be a file called gsview32.ini. Open this file. Replace the default GhostscriptDLL and GhostscriptInclude (at the top, under [options]), with their correct values (depending on where you installed Ghostscript).
