What is computer vision?

Computer vision is a branch of AI that enables computers to see and understand the world, much like humans do. This task is notoriously hard for computers, and while much progress has been made over the past 30 years, we're still far from having computers that see.

Looking for pointers to get started in vision research?

Here is my list of good books and references for computer-vision/machine-learning graduate students. And here is a brief introduction to machine learning that I wrote.

What do I do?

I'm part of the Activity Perception Project in the Vision Research Group at MIT CSAIL, where I work with Prof. Eric Grimson on medical imaging. I hope to graduate with my Ph.D. sometime in 2008.

I've worked on a number of computer vision projects since my undergrad days. See my publications for further details.

In Fall 2004, I was a teaching assistant for the graduate machine learning class at MIT.
