RX1 Retrospective #5

Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

This is an image captured freehand while hiking back from the French Valley in Torres del Paine. I had been looking back over my shoulder every few moments, mesmerized by the ever-changing clouds above the massive horns of granite. In between terrific gusts of wind, I whipped out the RX1, set it to f/5.6 (my go-to aperture for “distant” subjects), and snapped away.

The low-ISO raw files from this camera extremely malleable. This makes it possible to do strong tonal adjustments, such as this B&W rendition, while minimizing artifacts.
