A section of the glacier broke off and plummeted into the bay. This created a large wake that destabilized and ultimately broke up an iceberg nearby. (Side effect: the iceberg became more photogenic …)

The Great Ice Wall

Bråsvellbreen is a wall of ice that stretches for over 100 km along the southern coast of Nordaustlandet. We arrived an hour before midnight and were treated to one of the most incredible displays of light, water, and ice that I have ever seen.
