Bråsvellbreen, Nordaustlandet, Svalbard

This picture was taken at 11 PM, shortly after we rounded a corner of the ice wall at Bråsvellbreen. This section of the ice wall was mostly in shadow … but the waterfall at the corner was completely backlit! The sun and clouds also nicely lit up the smooth ice cap (visible in the background above the wall).

Bråsvellbreen is a wall of ice that stretches for over 100 km along the southern coast of Nordaustlandet. We arrived an hour before midnight and were treated to one of the most incredible displays of light, water, and ice that I have ever seen.
