Flexible Actuators

These flexible actuators are built with thin SMA sheets mounted flexible substrates. The sheets are cut with a high power laser to obtain a pattern with the adequate electrical resistance and mechanical properties.

This work was done by Eduardo Torres-Jara , Kyle Gilpin, and Josh Karges. This works was supervised by Profs. Daniela Rus and Rob Wood.

The details of the actuators have been reported in this publication.

The details of the HexRoller have been reported in this publication.

A SLIDE SHOW of these actuators can be found in MIT News.
