MIT Logo Mukul S. Bansal

Welcome to my homepage! I am a postdoctoral associate at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and am a member of the Computational Biology Research Group. My advisors are Manolis Kellis and Eric J. Alm.

Prior to joining MIT, I was a postdoctoral fellow with Ron Shamir at the Blavatnik School of Computer Science at Tel Aviv University, Israel.

I finished my PhD in Summer 2009 at the Department of Computer Science at Iowa State University, USA, where my advisors were David Fernández-Baca and Oliver Eulenstein.

Research Interests: Computational biology and bioinformatics in general, with a particular focus on computational molecular evolution. My research is characterized by the development of new computational methods, efficient algorithms, and powerful software tools to help answer fundamental questions in molecular evolution. I am especially interested in problems related to understanding gene family and genome evolution, and accurately reconstructing organismal phylogenies.
