You might think that you would have to worry about the possibility that a user might make your GUI ugly by scaling that interface's window in an odd or extreme way. In practice, you do not have to worry at all when you are working with applets, because an applet's size is fixed, once and for all, in the HTML file. And you do not have to worry much, even when you are working with standalone applications, because few users change window sizes.
