Lantern Ceremony at the Old North Church

The Battle Road Committee has tickets for the 225th Lantern Ceremony at the Old North Church in Boston.

The church would be honored to include two representatives in costume from each registered militia (civilian dress) group in the ceremony on Sunday, April 16th at 8:00 PM. You will be asked to parade in and out of the church with the other ceremony participants and be given excellent seats for the program. We have 220 tickets so we expect that we may be able to give out more than two per unit. Lexington 2000 is arranging for bus transports from the camp; however there will be a $10 per person charge for the bus, which will leave the encampment at 5:30 pm. (Parking in Boston's North End can be tough - especially with the Big Dig.)

If you are interested in tickets contact Xxx Xxxxx xxxxx@xxx.xxx (xxx xxx-xxxx) and reserve them by unit only.

If you are interested in the taking the bus, send a letter with name, address, unit and a check for $10 per person made out to Lexington Historical Society (with 225th Lantern Ceremony on the memo) to Xxx Xxxxx 225th Lantern Ceremony xx Xxxx Xx, XX xxxxx (all bus checks must be mailed by 4/5/00.)

If you have any questions - please contact xxxxx@xxx.xxx in a private e-mail.

Below is a letter from the church with their 225th plans....

Dear Lexington 2000 registered militia groups:

Welcome to Boston for the 225th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington. Each year Old North Church hosts a ceremony commemorating the hanging of lanterns in our steeple on the eve of Patriot's Day. Representatives of local militia groups join with descendants of Paul Revere and Robert Newman in this hour-long ceremony.

We would be honored to include two representatives in costume from each registered militia group in the ceremony on Sunday, April 16th at 8:00 PM. You will be asked to parade in and out of the church with the other ceremony participants and be given excellent seats for the program. Xxx Xxxxx, chairman of Lexington 2000, will coordinate your participation and arrange for transportation to and from Lexington.

Old North Church can only seat about 600 people for the event. 220 seats will be reserved for militia participants. Another 200+ are reserved for other participants and special guests. Unused tickets are distributed to the general public at 6:00 PM. Open seating is very limited. Each year we have to turn away hundreds of guests.

We hope that you will come visit Old North Church sometime during your visit to Lexington. We are open 9 - 5 daily. Basic tours are free (donation appreciated). Behind the Scenes Tours ($8) are run hourly. Palm Sunday services on April 16th are at 9:00 and 11:00 AM.

David Connor will perform Paul Revere Tonight on Saturday, April 15th and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 17-19 at 8:00. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children. We will offer a special to costumed militia groups of two tickets for the price of one. For further information and reservations call xxx-xxx-xxxx.
