Other Schedule Notes
Paris: We won't be doing either event as an
entire Regiment, however, there may be people going to each. If you're
interested in Liberte 2000 in June/July, registration forms (available
from Nelia - cwnewell@erols.com) and deposits are due by February
20. If you're interested in the September events, please let
Nelia know and we will have a meeting to update those interested once
the date and schedule are finalized.
| 6/26 - 7/6 | | Liberté 2000 (Paris) - anyone who
would like to attend this event on their own would be welcomed by the
organizers. Registration forms are due Feb 20 (contact Nelia). |
9/23-24 or
9/30-10/1 | |
Les Deux Journées Parisiennes de
L'Histoire another invitation to France, it is essentially
a time line of French history that will include a parade down the
Champs Élysées as well as some sort of
encampment/demonstration. It looks like 8-10 people will
probably go depending on the final date. The latest information from
Paris is that they are working on an invitation letter and are hoping
to invite us to a special viewing of uniforms and equipment in Les
Invalides collection. |
| 2001 | |
We may plan our own trip for 2001. Stay tuned. |
Prior Years' Schedules
Editor's Note: An explanation of the page title:
While the [French] expeditionary force was in Newport in November and
December 1780, Rochambeau had a newspaper printed for his soldiers, the
«Gazette Françoise».
Documented by a French scholar -- Marc Martin -- in a work entitled
«Les origines de la presse millitaire en France», this was
apparently the first instance of a newspaper directed at the common soldier
(soldat) and predates the next instance by 12 years!
