I worked for LifeHarbor, a startup that built software for managed accounts. A managed account is something kind of like a mutual fund, in that you give your money to a fund manager who makes decisions about what stocks to own and when to buy and sell. However it offers more flexibility. You can actually see what stocks you own, rather than simply owning shares in the fund, and you can specify restrictions that prevent you from owning certain stocks, and that keep you from selling others. Our software let a fund manager make decisions about what stocks his accounts should own at a high level, in a single “model” account, and cascaded those decisions down to buy and sell orders for tens of thousands of individual accounts.

I worked on the J2EE server and Swing UI software first as an intern for two summers, and then full time for a year after I graduated from MIT.
