10 months, 17 days Brier is not just walking, but running everywhere. He can also go up and down stairs with surprising agility, and has even recently started getting out of bed safely by himself. Mama worried all this mobility was going to make the plane flight to Boston challenging, but he did great, and Brier, Dillon, and Jaime enjoyed a fun week touring and attending SIGIR.

10 months, 1 day Mom and Dad are feeling well rested. Brier has started consistently getting long overnight stretches. Does this mark the end of nighttime wakings for his parents?

9 months, 17 days Brier is the happiest baby his parents have ever seen. He spends his life giggling. He didn't even cry when he was born. A sure sign that he's over-tired is when he disolves into not stop laughter.

9 months, 10 days Brier took his first step today!

8 months, 17 days Brier now has six teeth. He enjoys using them to enjoy all sorts of treats, both edible and (to his parents chagrin) non-edible. Lately he has become a big fan of Indian food, with saag and lassis being particular favorites. He likes to eat so much that he's figured out how to explicitly ask for it -- he's now a master of the sign for "milk" and the sign for "eat."

Brier's other big interest has been standing. He pulls up on everything and then lets go. He does a little cruising, too, but seems mostly interested in figuring out how to stand on his own. So far the head bruises are few, but Brier's parents are on standby for more.

7 months, 10 days Brier's first tooth broke through today. But even without teeth he started finger foods a couple of weeks ago and has really enjoyed daintily picking up his Cheerios and putting them in his mouth.

Brier has also finally moved beyond his (very efficient) army crawl and now crawls well on his hands and knees. He still results to the army crawl if he's in a real hurry -- if, for example, there's a brother or a cat to chase.

6 months, 22 days Brier did very well on the flight to Boston with Mama and Cale. The three of them will spend the week on the East Coast while Mama attends CHI and visits MIT. Brier's taken this opportunity to work on his new physical skills. As soon as he arrived at the hotel, he pushed himself up to sitting all by himself, and has since begun working on pulling up to standing.

5 months, 8 days Mama and Brier recently returned from a week in Barcelona, where Mama attended a conference. Brier did well with a "strange" caregiver (the nanny of a friend living in the area), and spent much of the week fascinated with all of the new things he saw and heared. Mom would have liked it if he had slept a little more, but understands the trip was exciting.

Brier continues to grow up faster than any of his family members can believe. His favorite "Big Boy" activity lately has been eating. After a month of pretending to chew and drooling while everyone else ate, he's finally been allowed to join in the fun. Thus far he's only tried rice, bananas, and peas, but already he loves food.

3 months, 26 days Brier rolls over consistently now, and prefers to be on his belly whenever possible. He even wakes up at night to practice his new skill. He's also figured out the game of peekaboo, and is working on teaching everyone else in his family. Brier's favorite activities include nursing, holding his own feet, sitting at the dinner table, laughing with his big brothers, and reading books. He's not a big fan of sleeping without a warm body next to him and the bottle.
