3 years, 1 month, 24 days Griff and his family recently traveled to Tahoe, where he was a ring bearer in Kristi and Pete's wedding. He did a beautiful job bringing the couple their rings, despite managing to untie one of the rings and dropping it halfway through the ceremony!

This weekend Griffin had a number of his future Little School classmates over to play. They had fun running on the grass, picking blueberries, and building forts out of baby playpens. Griffin cracked himself up joking about the little school. "The Little School is small, Daddy, it's so small it's just for bugs!"

3 years, 15 days Griffin came running in from playing in the backyard today to ask Mom and Dad, "Why do dinosaurs have such big tails?"

Thursday, June 28, 2007
3 years, 1 day Height: 34lbs, 14oz. Weight: 39 1/4" Griffin really is a big boy now. He didn't cry when he got his shot. He said it hurt but understood the pain didn't mean he was hurt.

3 years Griffin celebrated his third birthday today by having lunch and ice cream out with Mom and Dad. Last weekend he celebrated with his friends with a dinosaur party. Roar!

Monday, June 11, 2007
2 years, 11 months, 15 days Griffin visited his old home in Cambridge, MA, this weekend. He played at Raymond Park, visited his old daycare, hung out with his old teachers, and watched his mom get her doctorate.

2 years, 8 months, 14 days Griffin will be attending the Little School (http://www.thelittleschool.org) in the fall, for pre-school and beyond. Mom and Dad couldn't be more happy for him.

Friday, March 16, 2007
2 years, 7 months, 17 days "Fruit salad. Yummy, yummy." Griff and Mama got down at the Wiggles concert today, and recapped the adventure afterwards over dinner with Michael and family. In other news, Griff is really starting to learn to listen to his body and use the potty when he needs to.

Thursday, March 1, 2007
2 years, 7 months, 2 days Griffin just finished up his last day at daycare. He's spending the summer home with Sheila and his brothers before starting preschool in the fall. But before leaving, he showed us how well he could "Swim Like a Fish" up on stage at the Kirkland Theatre as part of his daycare's SpringFest. Too cute!

Tuesday, January 23, 2007
2 years, 6 months, 27 days Griff met Jaime for lunch today, and had fun drinking chocolate milk, meeting his mom's colleagues, and visiting the robots.

Wednesday, January 10, 2007
2 years, 6 months, 14 days A surprise snowstorm shut Seattle down and forced Griffin to walk 3 miles with his Dada and Cale to get home. Mama and Cale happily greeted him with hot soup and lots of hugs when he arrived.

Monday, January 1, 2007
2 years, 6 months, 5 days Happy New Year! Griff had a blast last night enjoying his sparkling cider and kissing his Mom and Dad as the ball dropped on Times Square.

Wednesday, December 27, 2006
2 years, 6 months Griffin's discovered the joy of Christmas, especially because Santa came through with the digger with a button on it. Griff has begun to make up his own stories (mostly about dinosaurs), and talk about what he is drawing (also mostly dinosaurs).

2 years, 5 months, 20 days Wow, what a weekend! While the return trip from a visit to the Science Center with Michael through flooded streets seemed adventurous, the adventure was only about to begin. Friday night, the wind blew like crazy, and a huge tree landed inches from Griffin's window. Power went out, and the family spent Saturday huddled around the fireplace. By evening it became clear the power wasn't about to come back on, so the hunt began for a hotel room. Mom and Dad managed to secure a room with two twin beds for the five members of the family 30 miles away. There were cigarette butts under the beds, but everyone was grateful for the light and heat as they dined on Cheetos and raisins. Power still has not been restored to the new house, and there are four trees on the lawn.

Thursday, December 7, 2006
2 years, 5 months, 10 days The Teevan Hehmeyers are buying a new house! It has lots of room for Griffin and his brothers to run around, but is very close to work for Mom and Dad. Griff loves the horses that greet him as they enter the neighborhood.

Sunday, November 26, 2006
2 years, 4 months, 30 days Lots of family is in town for Thanksgiving, and Griffin loves all of the attention. He enjoyed dressing up for dinner last night at the top of the Space Needle, and now can't wait for Christmas to arrive. He knows exactly what he wants, and hand delivered a note to Santa asking for the following: a digger with a button on it, and nothing for Cale or Dillon.

Friday, November 17, 2006
2 years, 4 months, 21 days Griffin has a new nanny named Sheila! Jaime and Alex feel exceptionally lucky to have found such a wonderful caretaker for their children while they work. Sheila started in early November, and she and Jaime are having a blast watching the kids together until Jaime starts work in January. Starting December, Griffin will also begin daycare part time.

Monday, October 31, 2006
2 years, 4 months, 4 days Bumble Bee Griffin went trick or treating with his new friend Sophia the Butterfly, and really enjoyed all the candy he gathered. He's not so sure, yet, that he likes how scary Halloween is.

Friday, October 20, 2006
2 years, 3 months, 26 days Griffin's plane flight to Seattle was both exciting and boring for him -- exciting because there was lots to see, and boring because it was long. Griff has spent the week getting to know his new friend Michael while Mom and Dad try to settle in.

Friday, October 13, 2006
2 years, 3 months, 16 days On Wednesday, Griff will be flying to Seattle! He's very excited about the upcoming move, and particularly excited about the upcoming plane flight. Halloween is also a highly anticipated event, and Griff is training for a night of trick-or-treating by wearing his bumble bee jacket around everywhere.

Tuesday, September 5, 2006
2 years, 2 months, 8 days Griffin surprised his parents by reading his name on a real estate sign for Griffin Properties!

Monday, August 28, 2006
2 years, 2 months, 1 day Griffin became a big brother today to Cale (url) and Dillon (url). Griffin was given the difficult responsibility of choosing which baby was given which name, and handled it beautifully. He loves holding and cuddling with his brothers, and is already learning how to soothe them.

Saturday, August 19, 2006
2 years, 1 month, 22 days A week ago Griffin took yet another trip to the emergency room, this time for stitches for a cut finger. Poor boy -- and poor Mom and Dad, who were more shaken up by the experience than he was. The stitches have delayed Griff's swimming lessons, but he's been having fun lately with the many visitors who have begun to stop by to help out as the family prepares to welcome two new members.

Tuesday, August 8, 2006
2 years, 1 month, 11 days Griffin started swim lessons today, and did a great job kicking and blowing bubbles. Mom and Dad won't be surprised if he's swimming on his own by the end of his 8 lesson series!

Tuesday, June 27, 2006
2 years All week Griffin has looked forward to his birthday. He'd ask Mom to sing him "Happy Birthday" as he fell asleep muttering about presents and cake. His birthday celebration was a simple one, with just Mom and Dad (as Mom is on bed rest), but also very sweet. Griff loved blowing out his candles, and is very happy to now be, "Two old!"

Sunday, June 18, 2006
1 year, 11 months, 22 days Griffin lost his Mamou on Thursday (url). He talks about Mamou a lot, and has recently been asking to take an airplane to go visit her. Unfortunately, Griff's mom is on bed rest after being hospitalized for several bouts of preterm labor, so the family is unable to fly to San Francisco for the memorial service. Griffin's been very sweet to his mom lately, and gave her lots of kisses when visiting her at the hospital for preterm labor, as well as a big hug when he learned her mom died.

Thursday, June 1, 2006
1 year, 11 months, 5 days Griffin fell at daycare this morning, and needed medical attention. MIT Medical immediately referred him to Children's Hospital, where he received two layers of stitching above his left eyebrow, for a total of nine stitches. He had to be sedated during the procedure because he didn't understand the process of getting stitches, and that made for a long and anxious day for the entire family.

But he's a trooper, and holding up well. He couldn't have been cuter as he headed to the hospital. Mom told him they were heading to the doctor's office because he had bumped his head, and he responded by singing, "No more monkeys jumping on the bed!" Wish the little monkey a speedy recovery.

Tuesday, May 30, 2006
1 year, 11 months, 3 days Griffin and Dad have been spending lots of time together as Mom finishes up her thesis. They have fun at the park and taking walks around Fresh Pond. He's excited to meet the twins, and excited to move to Seattle, and talks about both regularly.

Monday, April 17, 2006
1 year, 9 months, 2 weeks, 6 days Griffin had a blast on Easter. When he went to bed Saturday night, he really understood something exciting was going to happen the next morning. He woke up and ran to the gate downstairs calling, "Easter Bunny!" and he loved hunting for the eggs the bunny had hidden around the house. The family also went to a Red Sox game on Sunday. Griffin had more fun watching the people behind him than the action on the field, but he held up very well.

Wednesday, April 12, 2006
1 year, 9 months, 2 weeks, 1 day Griffin is very excited to announce that he is going to be a big brother to two baby boys (url). Griffin is clearly going to be a good big brother. He already gives his babies lots of hugs and kisses via Mom's belly, and the first thing he says when he wakes up in the morning is, "Hi Babies!" He's also well prepared for what it will be like to have two little ones around: Ask him what babies do, and he'll tell you, "Cry!"

Wednesday, January 18, 2006
1 year, 6 months, 3 weeks, 1 day Griffin had his 18 month check-up today, and is doing great. Height: 35 1/4", Weight: 27 lbs, 2 oz.

He's been showing a lot of imagination lately. He pretends to have his stuffed animals kiss, he pretends to cry, he pretends to laugh, he pretends to sleep, he pretends to eat.

Other big news: Griffin has now been sleeping through the night consistently for a week or two. Because he primarily nursed at night, he's also stopped nursing. Mom misses nursing her baby, but loves the extra sleep.

Thursday, January 5, 2006
1 year, 6 months, 1 week, 2 days Griffin wasn't sure he knew what to do with all of the presents he got for Christmas. He didn't like being the only one to open presents, and clapped and cheered when Mom and Dad opened some. His favorite new toy is a stroller, and he loves pushing Baby around in it. He also likes his singing potty ("Toilet paper, toilet paper, on a roll, next to me.."), but probably won't learn to use it for a while yet.

The holidays were spent in California -- a couple of days in San Francisco, the rest at Lake Tahoe. Griffin ice skated for the first time, and although he only did two laps around the rink, he was very cute in his skates. He started talking up a storm while traveling, and his vocabulary has grown to many more words than his parents can count. Griff also tried out a few simple sentences, and even story telling.

For example, he'll tell you the story of how he burned his finger (just barely -- it didn't even turn red). He'll point to the fireplace and say, "It's hot, it's really hot." And then point to his finger and babble. When asked, "Did you burn your finger?" he'll say, "Yah!" and shake his fist at the fireplace while saying, "Bad fireplace!" It's very cute.

1 year, 5 months, 6 days Griffin, Mom and Dad are back from Hawaii, where they spent Thanksgiving and a very relaxing week with Jaime's family. Griffin loved the water. He went to the beach just about every day, and was in the pool at least twice a day. He's fearless, and happily walks right into the water, sinks to the bottom, is rescued and then does it again.

Griffin is really starting to speak. Mom and Dad can hardly keep up with all of the words he knows now. The other day, Alex asked Griff is he was a little monkey, and Griff raised his arms above his head and said, "Oooh, ooh, ooh!"

Today, Griffin visited with Santa and picked out the family's Christmas tree. So far he's been good about not pulling all of the ornaments off, but we'll see...

1 year, 2 months, 21 days Rome was an adventure. Griffin was a trooper on the long flights, even through some harrowing airport mishaps. Italy was both a great place and a difficult place to visit with a baby. Italians love babies, and Griff was immediately forgiven any trouble he caused. However, there was hardly any "baby infrastructure". Restaurants didn't have high chairs and finding a playground was a challenge. Thus Griffin spent many meals on Mom or Auntie Brooks's lap, and got his energy out by running around on the lawn of a near-by museum. He loved the wild cats and the gelato, but hardly noticed St. Peter's Square, the Sistine Chapel and the Colosseum.

Saturday, September 10, 2005
1 year, 2 months, 14 days On Tuesday, Griffin had a big fall at daycare and bumped his head. The head bump got a lot of attention, but Mom also noticed his right arm seemed a little weak. Her concern was dismissed when she and Griff visited Urgent Care that evening, and then again the next morning. Finally, on Friday, a visit to Pediatrics led to x-rays that revealed Griffin's right radius was broken clean through. All of the doctors were amazed he was still using his right hand. Mom and Griffin missed their flight to Italy, but they are glad to have his wrist finally casted and on the mend. They leave to explore Rome tonight, instead.

Griffin looks like he's on the cusp of greatly expanding his vocabulary. Several days ago he started saying "bu" when the bus arrived. More recently, he's added "ba-ba" to refer to his bottle and "wa-wa" when asking for water. He even sounds like he's trying to say "Wild Thing" when looking at the pictures of Max and the Wild Things on his nursery wall.

1 year, 2 months, 2 days Being one is certainly a lot of work! There are so many toilets to flush, pots and pans to bang, pages to rip out of books and things to hide in drawers. Mom and Dad have to check the trash cans now before emptying them, because you never know what valuable item Griffin might have hidden in there.

Monday, August 22, 2005
1 year, 1 month, 26 days Griffin and Dad spent a week at home running wild while Mom attended a conference in Brazil. All family members involved seemed to hold up well, and Griffin greeted Mom with a rousing rendition of Row, row, row (your boat) as she got off the plane. That's right -- excluding "Mama", and "Dada", it looks like "row" is Griffin's first word! He's also added the all done sign to his repertoire, and yes and no head nods, so despite having a limited spoken vocabulary, Griff gets lots of kudos for communicating well.

Tuesday, July 26, 2005
1 year, 30 days Griffin got his first pair of shoes this weekend (Primigi). The first time he put them on, he walked like an astronaut because he was unaccustomed to their weight, but now he's running around like a pro and shows them off proudly.

Despite an ear infection (yes, even with the tubes) and four new molars, Griffin's done a lot of exploring recently. In the past week he's been to Walden Pond, the Children's Museum, and just about every park in Cambridge. Omi comes to visit this weekend, so lots more adventure is in store.

Saturday, July 2, 2005
1 year, 5 days Lots of friends and family (including Mamou and Aunt Brooks) come to help Griffin celebrate his first birthday in a luau celebration. Hau'oli La Hanau!

Friday, July 1, 2005
1 year, 4 days Griffin's surgery went well. The doctor said his ears were a mess, full of thick fluid the consistency of honey, and they would never have drained on their own. So it's really good his parents decided to go through with it.

He fell asleep in Mom's arms before the surgery, making putting him under relatively easy emotionally. He woke up happy and was running around flirting with the nurses within ten minutes. Not nursing in the morning was definitely the hardest part. Griff used his recently acquired sign for milk over and over while giving Mom big puppy dog eyes (at first -- later he got angry).

Monday, June 27, 2005
1 year Today Griffin celebrated his first birthday. What a year it's been, and what a lucky Mom and Dad Griffin has to have shared it with him. Lots of big kid changes keep happening every day. This weekend, Griff figured out how to get off the bed by himself, started sleeping in a cot at daycare, and learned to "talk" on the phone.

Particularly startling lately is his ability to communicate. When Mom asks him to, he can go to the bookshelf, pick out a book, and return to her lap to have it read to him. He clearly understands a lot of words (e.g., "outside" gets him very excited), and is beginning to ask for things clearly. He's been able to point and whine for a while, or to say "mama" as an indication of a general need (with "dada" added to his vocabulary recently), but this weekend he figured out the sign for milk!

Griffin's ear tubes surgery is scheduled for this Friday, the day after Mamou and Aunt Brooks arrive, and the day before his first birthday party. Looks like it's going to be a busy week. Wish the little guy luck. Saturday perhaps you'll be able to read here that he's feeling a lot better.
