A third area of meshing literature is that of mesh improvement. The goal here is to improve the shape or quality of individual elements by performing various local transformations. Work has also been focused on removing the poorest quality elements from 3D Delaunay triangulations. Overall it has been shown that a combination of transformations can be more effective than any single type.
