Another area of related work are the many successful applications of
procedural modeling. These include the fractal terrains, solid
texturing, and plant modeling with L-systems. Last year we saw
procedural approaches to cellular texturing for architecture
applications and automatic city generation.
Similar to these and other procedural modeling techniques, we have created a framework which gives high level control to the user, through small pieces of user code. A novice user can create complex models quickly without worrying about each polygon in the final model. Just as the RenderMan shading language provides a concise framework for image creation, our approach provides a simple, flexible framework for volumetric modeling. |
