A Euclidean distance field results in layers with uniform thickness.
But with Level Sets, we can control layer thickness patterns by
varying the isosurface velocity; yet another tool in our modeling kit.
To create the embossed effect on the candy in this image, the user painted a simple pattern of accelerated velocity on the original mesh. This results in a layer that's thicker in the painted areas. Other thickness patterns can be produced using turbulence, accessibility, visibility, etc. |
