Director, The Rus Laboratory at MIT. This laboratory houses robotics projects in self-organizing robots, networked robots, sensor networks, and mobile computing.

Director and founder, The Dartmouth Robotics Laboratory. This laboratory houses several robotics projects, including: distributed robot manipulation, navigation in three dimensions, self-reconfiguring robots, and desk-top robotics.

The laboratory is equipped with two customized RWI B14 robots, two RWI Pioneer robots, two inch-worm robots designed and constructed in-house, one desk-top robot designed and built in-house, and 25 self-reconfiguring robotic modules. The lab has computers. and hardware benches for robot maintenance and construction, including an FDM 2000 rapid prototyper.

Co-director and co-founder, The Mobile Agents Laboratory. This laboratory houses a project for building intelligent mobile agents. An agent is a program that can act autonomously on behalf of a user, to assist the user in a specific task. A transportable agent is a named program that can migrate from machine to machine in a heterogeneous network. The program chooses when and where to migrate in order to accomplish its task. It can suspend its execution at an arbitrary point, transport to another machine and resume execution on the new machine. Mobile agents are especially suitable for computation and communication in ad-hoc wireless networks.

This laboratory is equipped with a cluster of PCs and laptops.
