NOTES:The dates for many composers is a disputable matter, especially for the earliest of composers. Dates given in this database are correct according to the referenced sources but may differ from others.
When attempting to categorize composers by compositional genres every attempt has been made to include only the major genres in which the composer worked. If the composer wrote only one or two pieces in a particular genre it has been left out unless that work is considered significant.
