Piggy-Bank is a Firefox browser extension that lets you collect information tidbits from the Web, tag them with keywords, and share them with other people.
install
- You need Mozilla Firefox version 1.0 or later.
- You need the Java Plug-in for Firefox, version 1.4 (or, preferably, later).
You can check whether you have the Java Plug-in or not by browsing to about:plugins and search for "Java Plug-in".
If the plug-in is not installed, you can find it on Mozilla's plug-in site or on java.com. Alternatively, you can install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from Sun Microsystem which includes the Java plug-in.
MacOS users, you also need to install this: http://javaplugin.sourceforge.net/.
- Download the extension (4.1Mb).
Click Install on the popped up dialog box.
- Restart Firefox. Make sure you close all of Firefox windows before launching it again.
what to do with it?
- Collect and tag information from:
- any site with RSS
- directory of people at CSAIL
- CiteSeer
- any directory on your hard drive
- or any other site that may export RDF
- Tag webpages by hitting the backslash \ key.
- Register with the Simile Semantic Bank: choose menu Tools → Piggy-Bank → My Bank Accounts...
- Publish to the Bank!

- In Firefox, go to menu View → Toolbars → Customize...
- Drag the Piggy Bank icon to your toolbars; this gives you quick access to your Piggy Bank.
