Actually, the designers of Java created a language for writing small
doodads to be downloaded into web pages. Then Sun marketing attempted to
turn it into a general-purpose language for application development,
using the time-honored technique of re-labeling the product. And ever
since Sun engineering has been trying, and failing, to keep up with
marketing's ever-inflating outrageous claims for Java. So in the
strictest sense, the original designers did a fine job, and the
marketers are responsible for all Java's "shortcomings" when it is used
for purposes for which it was not designed.
