It's nearly a month still until the final results for the ICFP2001
contest will be announced, but the judges recently published the results
of the first elimination round.
You really can't tell anything from this. The test files used for the
actual scoring runs will be different. The time limits may be tighter
or looser in comparison to the complexity of the files. We don't even
know precisely how the judges will favour fast/slow programs vs good
compression/bad compression. Any guess now at the final outcome would
be just that -- a wild guess.
I've had a go anyway.
