Pushing the idea of futility pruning one step further to pre-pre-frontier nodes (depth = 3), we combine it with the depth-reduction mechanism of deep razoring. At first we describe the rules of the ensuing pruning technique and explain in detail how to integrate both extended futility pruning and limited razoring with an existing alpha-beta search. Thereafter, we present our extensive experiments which show that limited razoring works very well in practice, especially in combination with extended futility pruning.
