Here is how I would like to use various channels for communication. Thank you for reading!

Email

After taking a 10-day email sabbatical, I started using Inbox Pause to receive my email once a day. My response will likely be short, as I try to keep my email time to under 30 minutes per day.

If I don't know you, I'm more inclined to respond to short or general questions publicly, for instance on Quora or Twitter. If you have questions about applying to graduate school or about MIT, please first read the links on my website.

Instant Message

This is my preferred method for having conversations. If you instant message me when I am not online, it is likely that I will not receive it until the next day when I receive my email.

Texts

I prefer texts to emails for logistical things.

Phone Calls

I prefer phone calls to back-and-forth emails, especially for logistical things. I often don't check my phone unless I have a call scheduled.

Snail Mail

I like snail mail for personal correspondence. If I don't know you and you want to send me a substantial amount of text, snail mail is good too.

In Person

I prefer not to be interrupted. It would be nice to get at least an hour's notice if you want to have a real conversation.

Facebook and LinkedIn

I use these for keeping in touch with people I already know. I am happy to have strangers follow me on Facebook--I occasionally post publicly for that purpose.

Twitter and Quora

Here I am the most happy to engage with everyone. I prefer not to receive direct messages on these sites; I would rather you interact with me publicly.
