art description | An interactive video installation draws on classic film
archives to explore contemporary issues surrounding images,
advertising, and group participation. |
art proposal | People are led in groups of up to 6 into a small movie theater, through a standard turnstile. Inside a projection of a movie is frozen on a frame. As people clap for the movie, the frames advance slowly, and when enough participants clap synchronously, the movie begins to play on its own. As the movie progresses and the clapping continues, the movie reveals itself as an edited version of triumph of the will [the nazi propaganda movie by leni Riefenstahl]. Deals with complicity and the distinction and gradual fading between individual and group behavior. The space will emphasize this distinction as well. |
