art description | We are all individuals that are unique and different from each other. There are no two people alike. Nevertheless, other people around us affect our behavior, thoughts and emotions in the most simple and unconscious way. This work shows 16 portraits of 16 individuals. From time to time, one of the individuals is yawning, smiling or coughing. Other individuals in the portrait will be affected by that behavior in different ways according to their own personality, resulting in different social behavior patterns and different spreading rates. |
art proposal | We propose a work that shows how individual people are affected by the random behavior of people next to them. It is known that there are some behaviors that are unconsciously contagious, such as yawn, smile, cough. This work shows 16 different portraits in black and white. Each person has a different sensitivity level to the influence of the people around them; for example, one will be influenced only if four people will do a certain behavior while another will change his behavior if one person next to him did (cellular automata system). From time to time one of the people in the piece will do a certain behavior and the rest of the people will mimic the behavior according to each person's sensitivity rule. Resulting in a random virus effect that spreads among the people in different patterns and rates.
The piece will be shown on four screens, covered with a mat and a frame to give the work the appearance of a real picture. |
