|
art placard | Funkenschnorkel (corrupted German is ``broadcasting snorkel'') explores
the effects of empowering the individual to take control of the
audio environment in any interior or exterior space. Reasons that this
supernormal ability might be desired range from the manipulation of
others' perceptions (e.g. the superimposition of audio onto events or
places frequented by other people, such as protest demonstrations) to
the personal exploration of sound and space (e.g. combining music with
architecture as the wearer moves through them). The advent of high
capacity personal digital audio systems allows the wearer to possess
a virtually limitless repertoire of material with which to affect
his or her environment; the system also incorporates a microphone
with spatial effects to allow the projection of the wearer's
voice beyond the limits of his or her ordinary vocal capacity.
