art descriptionAfter establishing a set of algorithmic and architectural rules, each member of sosolimited was given a graphical primitive - points, lines, or planes - with which to compose in graphical and sonic space. The sounds drive the motion graphics and the graphics modulate the sounds.
art proposalThe My Pal 2 was a toy robot released around the early nineties. It ahs an automated head, blinking lights, reacts to movement and button presses, and can say a variety of phrases such as "I love you." or You're my man." Our installation is composed of sculptural as well as motion graphics and audio components. A few dozen My Pals will be arranged in the space, all watching a stack of televisions. The televisions will be playing a transformed sequence of stop-action My Pal animations. There will also be a subtle audio track to the piece. The audio will consist of sounds sampled from the My Pal robots, with a soft bed of My Pal murmurs designed to draw the bypasser in and potentially an intermittent musical layer, synchronized with the onscreen visuals. Determining the speaker setup will require some experimentation in the space.
