Motivation for a Writable Web

History - Just a Little Bit

• The first browser allowed you to write onto the Web, but why current browser don't?
• • It's very troublesome to maintain the writing functionality.
  • The protocol for updating was not yet developed.
  • Version control was immature.
  • Authentication method was not yet standarized
  • And, the biggest reason...

Because of HTML

• How about this?

• Not only to this person, it also causes trouble to other people.
• HTML is a language designed for presenting, so it's a bit too flexible.

Our Solution

• Use RDF

• The HTML view is presented using the RDF data.

• If you want to give comments
• 
• Attach a new RDF triple
• The HTML view is made using only the blue triples, so even you attach the new triple, it's not gonna affect the HTML view.
• But, the user is still possible to get this new information piece (by RDF).

About Protocol

• Use SPARQL Update, the extension of SPARQL

• PREFIX rdfs: <http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#> .
  INSERT { <http://example.org/Dennis#me> rdfs:comment "最低"@ja . }

• Only send the difference between the RDF graphs.

• PREFIX rdfs: <http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#> .

• It's possible to combime these with SELECT or WHERE.

About Tabulator

• The most important predicate is rdfs:label

• URIs are the names of concepts for computers, while rdfs:label(s) are the names of concepts for human.

• It's just fine to use the language you like. If automatic translation is possible...
• RDF could be called as "Simplified Human Language" .
• (There is only the construct of "A's B is C" in RDF. The nouns are URI. They are not languages of any country.)
