COLING 2002 in Taiwan

In August 2002, I went to the 19th International Conference on Computational Linguistics (COLING 2002) in Taipei, Taiwan. This was my first time attending COLING, and when I arrived I knew absolutely no one there. But I soon made friends with a bunch of other students, some of whom even knew Mandarin and/or Taiwanese. During the hours when we weren't diligently listening to presentations, we got a good sampling of Taipei's beautiful and intriguing attractions. Here are some of the pictures I took, and some I got from friends...

Thanks to Google for sending me on this trip (our presentation went over very well), and a million thanks to Michael, Vivian, and the "orange girls" for being such excellent interpreters and guides.
