"Cardea"

Cardea is a next-generation robot currently at the early design stage. It is a robot designed primarily to get through doors by opening the handles and pushing, just like a person would. The long-term plan is to make a mobile robot with access to both the social and physical world.

Current implementation

(by many many people, pretty much everybody in the group)

Currently there is just one arm, and a single camera as a head -- but the segway base is in place, and the robot can already push doors open (see video). You can read more about Cardea at the robot's new official site.

Video:  Opening a door
In this video, Cardea (with a single arm at this point) locates a door, pushes it open, and goes through -- all autonomously.
