COLLISION:superartificial (C1101)
will take place at
the Axiom Gallery
141 Green Street, Boston, MA USA
May 9 - May 25, 2008, wed, thu 6-9p, Sat 2-5pm
Opening Fri May 9 6-9pm
COLLISION1101 superartificial is a response to the unknown. As the
sphere of human knowledge expands, its tangibility and
comprehensibility to any one person diminishes. Just as the
supernatural depends upon the natural for its definition, so does the
"super-artificial" depend upon the artifacts of
culture. COLLISION1101:superartificial opens a dialog on the
possibility of superstition's survival of the death of the natural,
hiding now in the shadow of the artificial. Artists include: Joseph
Farbrook, Rob Gonsalves, jackbackrack, Georgina Lewis, Tim Murdoch,
Dan Paluska, Roy Pardi, Dan Roe, Mark Stock, John Slepian, Andy
Zimmerman, Chris Fitch

COLLISION:technomorph
will take place at
the Axiom Gallery
141 Green Street, Boston, MA USA
Aug 10 - Sep 8, 2007, wed, thu 6-9p, Sat 2-5pm
Opening Fri Aug 10 6-9pm
COLLISION technomorph explores the tendency, in the artist and the
viewer, to interpret things in both human and technological terms. The
nine works that comprise the show are drawn from previous COLLISION
shows for the light they shed on this inquiry. Formed by artists and
technologists, the COLLISIONcollective is premised on the sometimes
abrupt intersection between art and technology. Its practitioners are
drawn to this synthesis as the epicenter of forward-looking cultural
adaptation. In the exhibition, consciousness and other human traits
are observed to be interesting epiphenomena independent of the
platform upon which they are implemented. If a human machine can have
intentions, it is no less credible to posit that a designed system
"wants" a specific outcome than to state that its designer does. Seen
in this light, every act of personification, whether the object of the
classification is human or otherwise, is in fact the result of a guess
as to the nature of the complexity of the system in question.
Featured artists include John Slepian, Daniel Paluska, Andrew
Neumann, jackbackrack, Roy Pardi, Erica von Schilgen, William Tremblay,
Rob Gonsalves, Eric Gunther and Chris Fitch. Photo of Tantalus
