If you want a subpane to fill only part of a top pane, then instantiate the following pattern in the definition of createViews:

the subpane framingRatio: a rectangle 
```
The rectangle's upper-left and lower-right corners are fractions that determine where the subpane begins and ends relative to the top pane.
If you want a view-manager method to send a message to a particular view, then name the view by instantiating the following pattern in the createViews method:
```
the pane paneName: a string 
```
If you want a view manager method to send a message to a named view, then instantiate the following pattern:
```
(self paneNamed: pane name, a string) message selector 
```
A preInitWindow message is sent to the view manager by the open method before graphical elements are created.
An initWindow message is sent to the view manager by the open method after graphical elements are created, but before they are displayed.
