This 21 minute video describes an experiment that was conducted by researcher Stela Benitez Leite and collaborators comparing children in two different villages in Paraguay. The control group live near an organic sugarcane factory and were minimally exposed to toxic agrochemicals. The comparison group live in a rural area surrounded by soybeans that were frequently sprayed with pesticides. Comet assays and micronucleus examinations were performed on cell samples from both groups. The research results, showing statistically significant increases in DNA damage in cells from the exposed children, has been accepted for publication in the journal, Indian Journal of Medical Research, as a paper titled, "DNA damage induced by exposure to pesticides in children of rural areas in Paraguay."
