2 years, 11 months, 1 day Cale was very cute telling Dillon what to expect on his trip to Boston. "The airplane ride is long and I drank lots of ginger ale." While Dillon, Brier, and Mama were out of town, Cale enjoyed a lot of adult attention with his Dada and Omi in Seattle.

2 years, 10 months, 1 day Following a week of swimming lessons, Cale now loves to put his head under the water and spends bath time laying down in the tub. The other big news in Cale's life is that he is on the cusp of being done with diapers. Mom and Dad are looking forward to the day when the number of children in the family out of diapers is greater than the number of children in diapers.

2 years, 9 months, 1 day At the beach last weekend, nothing was cuter than little naked Cale splashing at the water's edge and making duck pie from the sand to feed to the ducks. He's really been having a good time now that summer is here.
Recently Cale has taken to being a kitty cat, and often meows in response to queries. Mom enjoys having a sweet little kitten curl up on her lap before bed.

2 years, 7 months, 6 days This has been a big week for Cale. Yesterday he flew to Boston with Mama and Brier, leaving Dillon for an extended period of time for the first time. Today he's going to spend his first afternoon without Mama, Dada, or Sheila as his caregiver. The adventure seems to be exciting and somewhat overwhelming.

2 years, 6 months, 11 days Lately Cale and Griffin have been particularly good friends -- and partners in crime. They can often be found plotting together in the playroom. Cale has also been increasingly inquisitive lately, asking fun questions of his parents and strangers alike. He recently interviewed at The Little School, and will unquestionably have a good time there when he starts in the fall.

2 years, 3 months, 16 days Cale has a playdough jar full of little blue eggs. At times he says they are bird eggs, and at time they are sea otter eggs. He likes to check on them to see if they have hatched, and when he misplaces the jar he cries, "My babies, my babies!"
It's been a busy holiday season for Cale and his brothers. Lots of family and friends came to visit over Thanksgiving, and Cale helped pick out a Christmas tree for the family. The boys took a train to visit Santa, and today they played in the first snowfall of the year.

2 years, 1 month, 19 days Cale is a lover. His favorite expression is, "I love it!" and he applies it liberally. For example, he asked Mom what a brown spot on her arm was, and exclaimed with glee, "I love freckles!" when told. He loves to give kisses, too.
Last night Cale slept by himself in the "dinosaur bed" (a mattress on the floor with dinosaur sheets that's usually just used for naps). He may be the first of his brothers to choose to sleep regularly in his own room.

2 years, 6 days Cale had his two-year doctor's appointment today, and is clearly a healthy, happy toddler with amazing language abilities. He grew a lot this year and is now 37-2/3" tall. He weighs 31 pounds. Dillon, incidentally, is within two ounces and a third of an inch.

1 year, 11 months, 22 days Every Tuesday this summer, Cale and Mama have gone swimming together. Cale particularly enjoys taking a dip in the hot tub at the end.

1 year, 11 months, 6 days Yesterday was Cale's second birthday party. He and 80 of his closest friends celebrated the event with a spooky Halloween bash.

1 year, 9 months, 30 days Cale's favorite food is salad, and he happily eats an adult-sized portion of salad with every meal. But Mom and Dad are glad that he's stopped using his cheeks to store food like a chipmunk; an adult-sized portion of salad is best eaten in small bites, not all at once!

1 year, 9 months, 22 days Cale starts soccer lessons next week. He likes the sport so much that he slept with his soccer ball last night.

1 year, 7 months, 29 days Today Cale went to a baseball game, and enjoyed fabulous seats right behind the visitor's dugout -- although he was really more interested in the crowds than what was going on on the field. Cale's smiling face was shown on the Jumbotron during the 7th Inning Stretch.

1 year, 7 months, 13 days Mom returned today from attending a conference in Italy without the children. Cale spent a nice week at home with Dad, Sheila, his brothers, and Omi.

1 year, 6 months, 18 days Cale went to his baby brother's prenatal appointment today, and enjoyed listening to the baby's heartbeat.

1 year, 5 months, 28 days Cale is going to be a big brother (url). Mom and Dad are very glad Cale decided to sleep through the night this weekend, along with his brother Dillon, because it means they'll at least get a few months of solid sleep before the new baby comes!

1 year, 4 months, 14 days At his well-baby doctor's appointment this week Cale weighed 28 pounds (within 2 ounces of Dillon) and was 34 inches tall (within a quarter inch of Dillon). He also showed off his prolific vocabulary, making animal sounds Mom didn't even know he knew.

1 year, 4 months, 3 days Cale had his first trip to the ER today. While enjoying some special alone time with Mama and Dada, he played the game, "1... 2... 3... Jump." The game involves being raised high into the air by his arms with both parents, and unfortunately culminated in a dislocated elbow. The doctor was able to quickly set things right, but Cale didn't enjoy the long trip to Wailuku while in pain or all of the people who poked and prodded his arm.

1 year, 3 months, 28 days Mele Kalikimaka. Cale is enjoying Hawaii, and particularly likes digging bath tubs by the sea with his Dada. Cale has also become quite a pineapple fiend in the past week. Yummy yummy.

1 year, 2 months, 9 days Cale was a darling bumble bee for Halloween. He enjoyed grabbing handfuls of candy at the neighboring houses and then leaving a trail of it in his wake as he buzzed off to the next house. Maybe next year he should be Hansel.
Dillon and Cale have started swimming every weekend with Mom and Dad in preparation for their upcoming trip to Hawaii.

1 year, 1 month, 6 days Cale loves the word, "Baaa." When the family heads out on their evening walk, he baas to request a visit to the lambies. At the Kids Quest Museum, he bee lines for the sheep stuffed animals. His favorite book is Touch and Feel Farm, where he always looks up the sheep to pet while baaing.
Cale has also picked up the word, "Ba ba," for bottle, but is very clear that it's a different word from the noise a sheep makes. When Mom asked him if he was talking about a sheep the first time she heard him mention his bottle, he intoned the two different sounds clearly so poor slow Mom could figure the difference out.
