It was there a few days ago, but now it's gone.
Eudora 6.0b18 Spelling Checker
I can still use the Cmd-6 to get underlines throughout the email showing spelling "errors".
But the Cmd-7 which brought up the Eudora Spelling Checker and would recommend choices has disappeared. Can't access it from the menubar, either.
Just get a message that says: "Sorry; couldn't start that application.
-120,{15:1229} "
And then: "That application is missing."
"The application that performed Eudora Spelling Checker could not be launched. You can locate the application, remove the function, or cancel." followed by the appropriate buttons.
But I was using it just the other day.
Where could it have gone, and how do I get it back?
(This is happening with the app in both OS9 and OSX.) |

My copy of Eudora 6b18 behaves similarly (don't know if it ever had cmd-7 function, but I get the same message); however, with "spell checking as a I type" turned on, I automatically get underlining of misspelled words.
Do you have a copy of 5.2.1 still? Check it if you have -- my 5.2.1 gives the same message, unfortunately.
I am going to look into this to see if one can designate an external spell checker. |

I re-installed 6.0b18 and had the same, so it's not there.
I also re-installed, separately, 5.2.1, and found that it did the same, although before I had 6, the spelling had worked fine in 5.2.1
So, somehow, I think something must have become corrupted, and stays corrupted, after the instal of 6.
I can get the underlining if I turn on spellcheck as you type, or throughout the email if it's turned off and I use cmd-6, but there's no suggestion window anymore, as would come up with cmd-7 before.
Not an essential, as at least there is spellchecking, but I did rather like the suggestion window, and the opportunity of manipulating the dictionaries.
Maybe this is just a bug in 6.0b18 - that "b" is significant - and we can hope for a correction sometime later.
If you find anything really useful, let me know.
Tks. |

The only thing I can add right now is that I never did get a suggestion window for spelling errors, through all the Eudora 5's! Just got the underlining.
If you search Eudora.com's support, you'll find that you can alter many, many settings; these are called <X-Eudora-Settings>. Here's a link to all of them.
For example: if you create a new mail, and type <x-eudora-setting:197> in the body, then double click on it, you'll get a dialog box to change how fast Eudora processes keystrokes so that possible interference with Spell Catcher can be eliminated (see this link).
I didn't look throught them, but maybe there's a cure for the spell checker in here???? |

Thanks, BuckRock. Rather dense stuff on those links, but I've saved the info and will go through it to see if it restores that spelling option.
I can get the underlines using Cmd -6; and I've also discovered that if I double click on one of the underlined words, I get a small list of suggestions.
However, I used to be able to use Cmd-7 or the menubar option, under Edit: Eudora Spelling Checker. It's faded out now, and won't work either from the menu or the command. |

| Yeah, they say on their site that one shouldn't use the X-Eudora-Settings method unless you are an experienced user. I've never used them; just thought you might be able to make some use of them. I love some of their terminology on that page -- Eudora programs have always been "out there." |
