After obtaining a Ph.D. in computer science from U.C. Berkeley, Seth Teller joined MIT's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in 1994. There, he heads the Robotics, Vision and Sensor Networks group, where his research focuses on developing machines that work closely alongside people. Recent projects from Teller's lab include: body-worn devices that build maps and provide information about the wearer's surroundings; a self-driving car; an unmanned, outdoor forklift commanded through speech; a voice-commandable robotic wheelchair; and a system intended to protect police personnel from roadside collisions. Teller's lab also develops a variety of assistive technologies for people living with blindness, paralysis and other disabilities. See http://rvsn.csail.mit.edu for more information.
