How to have one head (monitor, keyboard, and mouse) switch between a Silicon Graphics machine and a PC

Buy an HP 4-port console switch model J1493A, which you can find in HP's online catalog for about 1200 bucks. Since you'll use up both computers' cable sets connecting them to the switch, you'll also need a third cable set to go from the switch to your single monitor, keyboard, and mouse -- typically two male-to-male mini-dins and a male-to-male VGA cable, which shouldn't be more than 50 bucks total. I went through about three other switch types, none of which worked, before finding the HP. If it locks up, which happens very rarely, press both "Shift" keys simultaneously to fix it. If that doesn't work, power cycle it.
