I am an Assistant Professor of Computational Medicine and Computer Science at UCLA (start 2025), and a visiting research scientist at Google Health. I completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science at MIT, advised by Dina Katabi. Before MIT, I received my B.S. with honors from Peking University.

I develop machine learning methods to solve important problems in healthcare and medicine. Please see my research lab for details. My work has been recognized by Ten Notable Advances in 2022 by Nature Medicine, Takeda PhD Fellowship, Baidu PhD Fellowship, MathWorks PhD Fellowship, Rising Stars in AI (Yunfan Award), Rising Stars in Data Science, and Forbes 30 Under 30 in Healthcare & Science.

I'm recruiting PhD students this cycle (start in Fall 2025). See instructions on applying below.

I am recruiting PhD students for Fall 2025! I am looking for technically strong, motivated students passionate about advancing the frontiers of AI for health and medicine. I'm generally interested in students with strong AI/ML background and care about real-world impact and interdisciplinary work in health/medicine.

PhD students: I am looking for ~3 PhD students for Fall 2025 (application due Dec 2024). I can advise students in either CS or Computational Medicine (CompMed). Please apply through both admissions portals, and I plan to take 1-2 students from each program. While I will try to review all relevant applications, contacting me after submission can help flag your application:

Admitted UCLA PhD students: If you have already been admitted and are looking for potential advisors, please email me directly.

Postdocs: We have postdoc openings and welcome applications from recent or soon-to-be PhD graduates in computer science, AI, biomedical informatics, computational medicine, or related fields. Please email me directly with your CV (subject: "Prospective Postdoc").

Interns / RAs: I'm also looking for self-motivated interns to join at any time. Please email me directly with your CV (subject: "Prospective Intern") and fill out this form.
