Geometric models are an important part of any graphics system. They are used for architectural and mechanical visualizations, scientific simulations and to create digital characters such as those in Toy Story.

Unfortunately though rendering has progressed tremendously in recent decades, the creation of complex geometry for these applications is still a challenging task. The widespread use within the graphics community of the same models, such as the Utah teapot and the Stanford bunny, attests to these difficulties.
