The primary contribution of the work I'm presenting today is the simplification and shape improvement of tetrahedral models to meet interactive simulation requirements. We introduce a new metric for element quality to support our shape improvement goals

The algorithm was designed to handle complex tetrahedral models generated from high-resolution scanned meshes, composed of multiple materials with interior boundaries. The implementation thus had to be robust to handle possible degeneracies in the input and efficient enough to handle very large models.
