6/25 Mirrors

Since our hands were is almost perfect shape after Le Pilier des Ecureuils, we decided to do some harder single pitch sport routes at the Sector Mirrors (p.332) which rises above a couple lookout points and a tunnel on the road long the gorge. Moutain goats congregate there, waiting for tourist to stop and feed them. Some look sort of demonic, and all have incredible balance. Logistically, this was much more what we were used to doing (i.e. starting from the bottom, climbing up one pitch, and coming back down), but the quality of the routes were not at all what we were used to. The challenge of footwork and route-finding made these problems particlarly difficult for the rating.

We warmed up on La Dulf Du Fou (6a, 45m, #3057, p.332) which was good for that purpose.

We worked on Une Tenebreuse Affaire (7a, 20m, #3058, p.332) for a while. Although the guidebook said it had old gear and committing moves, it seemed fine (though perhaps only relative to some of the runouts from the day before). Awesome route. Very hard. Lots of cool, bouldery moves. Many falls.

At first we saw only this single goat perched on the wall
