Archive for Deleted Files

The Archive of Deleted Files (ADF) is a web archive that contains deleted files found in various computers connected to the Internet. Upon visiting ADF, the visitor is asked by a dialogue box to submit deleted files to ADF (a necesserary procedure) in order to access the archive. When answering "OK", the program Trojan Horse 1.01 is automatically downloaded to the visitor's computer and starts to scan the hard disk for deleted files. The files that Trojan Horse 1.01 is able to recover are then sent back to the archive. The visitor is thereby given free access to the archive in exchange for the submission of deleted files. For each contribution, the visitor is entitled to explore one person's deleted files. ADF uses a set of the statistically most popular search terms (e. g. "computers", "sex" and "pictures",) as invisible keywords (by using META tags) to attract as many visitors as possible.

The art project Archive of Deleted Files was founded in 1996 by Konrad Tollmar and artist Mans Wrange.

SoftAir Communication

To the exhibition “The Global Tendecy Machine” we build a installation of two connected chairs that enable communication between the peers of persons using the chairs. The installation "SoftAir Communication" could be interpreted as an image of how we could interact and communicate using our whole body, through light and sound we could manifest our awareness, presence and quest.

The interaction and rendering of feedback in the chairs might bridges the gulf of distance between two physically separated humans. From being outside to feeling included, from isolation to the feeling of company, from coldness to fundamental warmth and human embodiment. The media of tomorrow will hopefully manifest multiple characters, will use combinations of fundamental geometric and organic forms sprung from nature and technology - this is what we have attempted to gestalt through the chairs in the "Soft AirCommunication" expression.

Global Tools

“Global Tools” was an exhibition at k/haus – Wien about our contemporary information society. Utilizing the concept of "Information Heat" we displayed an investigation of how we instead could communicate through smooth and sensorial modalities. The displayed White Stone concept is an interconnected pair of touches sensitive stones that will react upon sensorial interaction by warming up the related peer. When the counterpart takes the stone in his or her hand, it will detect the touch and send a signal back to the first stone, which will be warmed up by an internal heating device. In this manner, two people can keep in touch and feel each other's presence in another way than by talking over the phone. ”The White Stone” does not replace the telephone or other communication devices, and it will never replace a personal encounter. On the other hand, ”The White Stone” offers another contact surface between people – communication on a different level.
