When you file out definitions, they are written in a special chunk format. As you learn in the remainder of this chapter, the chunk format is human readable, and, in principal, you can write programs in the chunk format using an ordinary text editor. Such programming is strongly discouraged, however. When you write programs using an ordinary text editor, all the point-and-click tools and the visual guidance provided by the development environment are hors de combat.
