The argument of the framingRatio: message sent to the top pane is a rectangle instance. The upper-left corner of the rectangle is a point with fractional x and y values. Those fractions determine where the upper-left corner of the top pane lies relative to the left edge and top of your screen. The lower-right corner of the rectangle is a point with fractional x and y values that determine where the lower-right corner of the top pane lies relative to the left edge and top of your screen.

Similarly, the argument of the framingRatio: message sent to the graph pane is a rectangle instance that establishes where the graph pain lies relative to the top pane. The 0 @ 0 and 1 @ 1 points indicate that the graph pane is to fill the top pane.
