Hive 1: Sunday, January 17 — 1pm to 4:30pm, Minute Man National Historic Park Visitor Center (Lincoln)

This year, our first Hive will be a mini-symposium on "Why We Wear What We Wear". Our several speakers will examine primary sources including New England inventories, wills, advertisements, ships manifests, run-away ads, period art, and extant garments—to make a case for the current Battle Road clothing standards.

Hive 2: Sunday, February 14 — 1pm to 4:30pm, Minute Man National Historic Park, all events at Noah Brooks Tavern

10am–4pm Shift-o-Rama
Give yourself a Valentine in the form of a new shift. Enjoy a day of camaraderie and learning. Our guest expert,
Sharon Burnston, author of Fitting and Proper, will explain about the evolution of shifts through the 18th century, and you will construct your shift using period sewing techniques. You will be entertained during the day with 18th century prose.
Admission is free, but pre-registration is required: email stephzsmith@gmail.com. Attendees will need to purchase and pre-wash and iron their linen prior to workshop. Please see information on yardage and sources.

1–3pm Sewing for Children POSTPONED to March
(6 yrs old and up) Learn how to sew by mastering the basics—from threading a needle, knotting a thread, running stitch and backstitch. Make a drawstring bag to use at events.

1–3pm Making a Huswif
Learn to sew or hone your skills by making a housewife (an 18th century sewing kit). Henry Cooke will guide you through reproducing one from his collection.
Materials Cost: $10 Please plan on pre-registering so we have enough kits.

3–4pm Learn the Norfolk Drill
Join members of the 10th Mass in the carriage house to learn the Norfolk Drill. Research has shown that it is one of the predominant drills used throughout Massachusetts and practiced by many of the militia companies. Bring your musket, bayonet and empty cartridge box.

Hive 3: Sunday, March 14 — 1pm to 4:30pm, Minute Man National Historic Park, all events at Noah Brooks Tavern except where noted otherwise

1–4pm Women's Caps
Try on different styles of caps till you find the one that looks good on you. Then construct your cap. How nice to have a new cap to debut at Battle Road!
Cost of Materials: $15 Clinic is free of charge but pre-registration is required.

1–3pm Sewing for Children

12–1pm (note change in time) Musket Tune Up—Lecture
Note location: Minute Man Visitor Center, Lincoln, MA
Gunsmith Jim Casco will demonstrate the how to get your musket in good working order. A well functioning, clean musket is a safe musket.

1:30–3pm (note change in time) Musket Tune Up—Workshop
Noah Brooks Tavern
Tune-up your musket for the season. This hands-on workshop will get your musket in top working order and ready for Battle Road. Pre-registration is required. Limit: 10 participants. Fee $25.

3–4pm Learn the Norfolk Drill
Note location: Minute Man Visitor Center, Lincoln, MA
Join Park staff to learn/practice the Norfolk Drill. Bring your musket, bayonet and empty cartridge box. If you took the
February session, use this class to perfect what you learned last month.

Hive 4: Oct. 24 — 10am to 4pm, Noah Brooks Tavern

1–4pm Special fall Hive: Sewing Bee
Bring your new projects, your old projects, your questions, your answers, your news, your chatter, anything. People will be available to help you even with that stumper that's been shoved in the back of your closet for the last few years.
