To re-create complex imagery, such as the Venetian facade in this
photograph, we need to either employ a talented artist with a lot of
spare time, or expand and improve the available graphics tools for
modeling and physically-based simulation.
Many objects gain visual interest over time. The layered construction materials of this building have been affected by erosion in different ways to expose the underlying structure. Most computer graphics imagery is created with surface representations that are unable to capture object properties beyond shape and texture. Objects that can't be represented with surfaces and texture maps are often avoided. |
