Surface modeling tools such as CSG, freeform deformation, texture
mapping, and complex lighting can be used by a talented artist to
compose beautiful imagery such as this architectural visualization of
a museum space. The recent advances of three dimensional scanning
technology, such as Cyberware, has made it practical to capture the
shape and texture of just about any real-world object and add it to
the scene.
But what if we want to show what this space will look like after hundreds of school fieldtrips have scuffed the floor, the plaster ceiling is cracked, and the paint is peeling? What if these columns were instead on the exterior of a building? These types of modifications can be performed with a volumetric model and physical simulations, but they can be difficult to initialize and control. One goal of our system is to make simulations such as this feasible. |
