Currently, START is used through the Web as a natural language based multi-media information access system. START has the capability to assimilate knowledge through its natural language interface, but to date, because of issues of trust and consistency we have not exposed this interface through the Web. HAWK, a Web-based knowledge acquisition and management facility for START, is clearly the next step. There are three types of knowledge which we wish to acquire; there are a variety of techniques we wish to explore to acquire each type of knowledge.
